Bolączka refers to a burden, an unwanted condition, a discomfort we try to avoid—an aberration. For non-binary and non-heteronormative people, however, it becomes a constant companion in everyday struggles within a patriarchal world. Artist Małgorzata Mycek addresses these “ailments” through a musical form of drag karaoke. Bolączka. Karaoke Live Act took place on October 12 at BWA Warszawa, within the exhibition Gossipmongers.
This one-hour performance takes the form of a punk concert—an interpretation of the fight against inequality, discrimination, and violence. In the context of the exhibition Gossipmongers (Phillip Gufler, Karol Radziszewski, Jaanus Samma), dedicated to trans and intersex individuals, including Stanisława Walasiewicz, the performance becomes an emotional outburst of a queer person responding to narratives present in mainstream media. While such topics gain visibility during major events like the Olympics, beyond media coverage they remain the everyday reality of thousands of people, with no possibility of escape.
The event began at 18:00 with a conversation between Małgorzata Mycek and Karol Radziszewski, lasting until approximately 19:00.
19:30 – Bolączkowe Karaoke
The performance and talk are part of the program of the ING Polish Art Foundation accompanying Warsaw Gallery Weekend.
