Laura Kaminskaitė "Exhition"

Exhition is a solo show and an offer to take a stroll by Lithuanian artist Laura Kaminskaitė. Hereby Kaminskaitė prepares a set-up where one is invited to join the mode of continuously overlapping reflections and where free will is welcomed. This could recall a remembrance of Scaramanga's house in the end scene of The Man with the Golden Gun (1974), a spy film, where Bond poses as a mannequin of himself. Whilst in this exhibition, visitors look at a selection of works containing references to the present act, it is a set of things constantly melting into various shades that give meaning to a volatile mind. We are invited to become part of a haunted solo show, where the general idea of being dis-played takes various shapes and modes.
One could see how ghosts of this meeting are all over the space: the spectator is surrounded by what could be called language tongues – the separate yet familiar parts of the predictable whole, which are waiting to become active in a unifying gesture. Be it Lips (pick up taxi for an abstraction) (2013) or Not Yet Titled (2008), these are floating forms appearing on the brick of abstraction. As much as Exhition, a title of the show, which sounds like an exhalation ready to become a word. This show has the float of an echo: for instance, a sugar cube (Sugar entertainment, 2011-ongoing) and a white cube of a gallery cohere  in their aesthetics and sugar's physical ability to record the information of space. Starting with clairvoyants, who used sugar as a tool for collecting astral information, here one can see how the use of the before mentioned capability gains different shapes in time. Artworks are constantly correlating with and within exhibition phenomena and this correlation is determined by their inner and external qualities. Shapes constantly fade during moments of repetition and recognition. It is like walking in your own memory where every step brings back a new remembrance or creates a novel one. And one’s own memory of the present as well as the past is the only guide in this show. This could be experienced while reading Walking in the Title (2012) one of the textual works by Kaminskaitė, which provides an open possibility to become a part of the creative act. Admittedly, the character and outline of this show depends on certain outside factors, which are inimitable and variable in every place of display. Therefore, the spectator is welcome to experience Exhition under a constant loss of letters in relation to the particular stay in BWA Warszawa.

Laura Kaminskaitė (born in 1984, lives and works in Vilnius, Lithuania) has held solo exhibitions, at Exhition, BWA Warszawa, Warsaw (2013); Walking in a Title, The Gardens, Vilnius (2012); Exhibition, Objectif Exhibitions, Antwerp (2012); and participated in group exhibitions, including Vilnius Pavilion, National Contemporary Art Centre (NCCA), Moscow (2013); ICI’s Curatorial Hub, TEMP, New York City, NY (2012); Thinging, Frutta, Roma (2012); Sparrows, Contemporary Arts Centre (CAC), Vilnius (2012).
