Tribute To Fangor

Tribute to Fangor: Agata Bieńkowska, Michał Chudzicki, Mikołaj Długosz, Kuba Dąbrowski, Przemek Dzienis, Maciej Landsberg, Sławomir Pawszak, Mateusz Sadowski, Paweł Sysiak, Małgorzata Szymankiewicz i Iza Tarasewicz.

Curators: Piotr Bazylko & Krzysztof Masiewicz.

For the project, eleven young generation artists were asked to prepare works inspired by the oeuvre of Wojciech Fangor - one of the most important living Polish painters.
As Alek Hundzik writes in his essay “Fangor Games”: ‘If Polish post-war art was to be summarized in one single word, it would be - Fangor. In his oeuvre, the artist overcame all the stylistic boundaries and limits, he worked unbothered by any convention’ writes Alek Hundzik in the essay “Fangor Games” published in the catalogue for the exhibition.
Wojciech Fangor is considered one of the last „great masters” of the Polish art scene after 1945. At the same time, he remains polyvalent, switching from one style to another. By implication, his work is both figurative as well as purely abstract.
In accordance, we and the eleven artists invited for this project ask ourselves „What was Fangor’s influence on the young Polish art scene?”
The result is positively striking; strangely enough, many participants have chosen photography while Fangor himself never favoured the medium.

The exhibition is accompanied by a fully illustrated catalogue (edition 100, text by Alek Hundzik) and an artbook containing works by all of the participating artists (edition of 30).
