english version
Zuza Krajewska "Solstice"

Morning. A bed. Two half naked girls are sleeping and spooning each other, cell phones are by their heads, the room is messy. One of them wakes up and kisses the other on the shoulder. The beginning of the TV series „Girls”, the beginning of the day. Zuza Krajewska, one of Poland's best-known photographers, has been invited by BWA Warszawa to create a new series: a story about women. The protagonists of her photos are mostly her friends. Krajewska watches them in moments of intimacy, closeness, while doing their small, secret rituals. „Solstice” is a subtle urban reportage about the intimate world of women. „Solstice” also contains an autobiographical dimension, which is why the date of the opening is so close to the summer solstice.

Zuza Krajewska

was born in late 70’s and studied at Academy od Fine Arts in Gdansk, Poland. She is a photographer with an established international reputation in the field and also a great number of works created for various magazines and as personal artistic projects. In the begining Zuza was working alone, photographing strange maybe even a bit controversial topics. Her first exhibition "New Documentary" showed a series of portraits of people with wounds, scars, and physical "damage". From the beginning her personal style has included courage, tolerance, but also a great sense of humor and cliché.
In 2006 she met Bartek Wieczorek and since then they have been working together. The youthful, sexy and downright captivating imagery of Zuza and Bartek has influenced the look of contemporary Polish fashion photography in a significant manner. The pair have shot numerous fashion editorials and ad campaigns for big clothing brands. But they have also turned a critical eye on the industry through their decadent, "trash aesthetic" representation of an alternative view of beauty and behaviour. They have manage to escape the conventional definitions by artfully trapping their viewers between the various layers of meaning contained within their works. These layers associate art criticism, rebel against conformity, confrontation between hetero- and homosexuality and minimalist aesthetic that expands across a decadent landscape of the 21st Century.
